Calins Gratuits...

Soyons généreux... la vie est si simple... et l'Amour un bien commun! Partageons-le!

Porque el Amor es necesario a la vida... y que felicidad!

Is it so hard to love one another? No, just watch and try yourself! Don't worry: be happy! Because Love is all we need!

Afinal é tão fácil... porquê sentirmo-nos sózinhos, quando há sempre alguém a quem abraçar!?

qwatz - artist in residence program in Rome, Italy

qwatz (www.qwatz.it) is a cultural residency programme in Rome that offers living accommodations and studio spaces to international artists, directors, writers, photographers and curators, contributing to a dynamic of mobility between different countries and cultures. The residency was created out of a need for collaboration and exchange between practioners who, through different aspects of art and culture, elaborate instruments of reflection on the quotidian; it considers art a possible observation point on reality, and reality as a stimulus for creativity. One of qwatz's characteristics is to create occasions for dialogue between its guests and network by proposing activities that are inspired by films, which are considered like boxes to open the multiplicity of the spectator's points of view.A first phase of activity begins during the VI edition of Tekfestival (www.tekfestival.it ), a festival of independent cinema in Roma, which this year hosts among its guests the Swiss artist Ursula Biemann. Within the framework of a series of events dedicated to the artist, qwatz will organize and curate a workshop. - 5 May 6:30 p.m. :vernissage Agadez Chronicle - a collection of videos on mobility and the politics of containment in the Sahara, a video installation by Ursula Biemann (at Love and Dissent, via Leonina 85, Rome).- 6 May 8:40 p.m. :conference and screening of Performing the Border and Europlex by Ursula Biemann (at cinema Farnese, piazza Campo dei Fiori).- 7 and 8 May: workshop held by Ursula Biemann, Davide Franceschini and Sarah Ann Klingeberg. 10 participating artists will develop works departing from the exchange with Biemann, reflecting on the role of the artist in the construction of social consciousness. The workshop is hosted at 1:1projects (1to1projects.org ), a cultural association that has developed a platform for art, research and cultural production and which is constructing an archive of international contemporary artists.-- Benedetta di Loreto+39 349 3281766b.diloreto@qwatz.itwww.qwatz.it

Call for applications - atelier 07

diskurs 07 – festival for performing arts, Boris Nikitin and Jan Ritsema (PAF) invite you to participate in the application for atelier 07. atelier 07 is a performative experiment held during this year’s festival aimed at contributing a production on the festival’s topic twilight apart from the invited productions.

quality time (qt)

atelier 07 will work on a performative presentation that is going to be shown during the festival.

What is quality? From The Man Without Qualities (Robert Musil) to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, the issue of quality has been two-fold – a double bind, as it were: How is a producer, in the sense of an artist, to issue quality. We are aware that the quality of production is related to the quality of a production - but where is the praxis located, and how is the originary possibilitization (Georgio Agamben – the Man Without Content) opened?

The experiment that we wish to undertake revolves around the notion of quality time. During a seven day period, we propose to collect quality time – given a goal of making a presentation. The twilight aspect in this experiment is that we neither know what exactly quality time is nor know how to exactly create it. If, is it possible at all to create quality time for all participants.

There will be 2 phases:

(1) A preparation time of 6 weeks to discuss project conditions by e-mail and via the diskurs 07-Homepage; during this phase, we hope to collect proposals of strategy, working method, etc.
(2) In the second phase, Boris, Jan, and seven participants will congregate in Giessen for seven days of quality time. A presentation is to be assembled, which shall appear at the mid-point of the festival in Giessen.

atelier 07 is limited to 7 participants.
atelier 07 takes care of travelling expenses, food and accomodation.

Preparation: 27.8 – 3.10.2007.
Meeting in Giessen: 5.10 – 12.10, Presentation: 12.10.; Participants may stay until the end of the festival.
Duration of diskurs 07: 9.10. – 14.10.

Application: to apply for atelier 07 please send a text containing your thoughts, ideas and comments concerning the set up as described above. The text has to be written in English. Biographical notes are not necessary. Closing date is June 10th.
Selection: all the applications will be sent around to all applicants. All applicants and only the applicants, so not Boris and Jan either, will have 20 points to give to any or as many applicants as they want. The 7 who get the most points will be invited.
Send your text to atelier@diskursfestival.dewww.diskursfestival.de; www.p-af.net

GOD IS BLACK AND NELISIWE XABA HIS QUEEN

Nelisiwe Xaba, a wonderful South-African dancer, already known by the French public as the fetish performer of Robyn Orlin, presented her own work in the last two days of the 2007 edition of Toulouse International Festival «C’est de la Danse Contemporaine».
Being the image of this year festival Nelisiwe Xaba had full house at CDC studio, where she presented two solos: «Plasticization» and «Ils me regardent et c’est tout ce qu’ils pensent» («They look at me and that’s all they think»).
In these two solos, Nelisiwe Xaba, in collaboration with Strange Love and Carlo Gibson, offers to us – with a generosity that we are not used to in Europe – an astonishing work on costume and accessories handling.
Not only she makes proof of a refined sense of aesthetics but she successfully takes us through a very pertinent critical vision of what a female south-African black contemporary artist has to say in this male European white contemporary world.
«Ils me regardent…» is tribute to Sarah Baartman, the South-African black woman that became an object of scientific curiosity in the nineteenth century.
In a very intelligent but simple way Nelisiwe translates Sarah Baartman’s story into an autobiographic vision of black African woman’s body today.
Through a quite elaborate game with costumes and objects: her dress becomes a cinema screen, inflated air becomes body shapes, a stool becomes a tango partner… in a surprising dance where music is used in a direct and sometimes funny way.
There is a kind of conscious naivety that enchants the spectator in an audacious musical path – where we, Europeans, have lost all spontaneousness, Nelisiwe Xaba builds her territory!
«Plasticization» is a short and astounding solo performance, where the body becomes universal in its… plasticization!
An accurate critical view of the contemporary body, that becomes plastic, not only in an aesthetical way, but also in the manner of how contemporary humans interact: not touching, not showing their bodies (unless it is in a fashion socially accepted usage), isolating their «body of diseases and imperfections» away from the joy of just being («natural»?). A body that only touches others through plastic protection (kissing is a beautiful metaphor) and that becomes a big plastic bag from which arms and legs (protected by shoes) come out to touch the outside «dangerous» world (kind of Sarkozy point of view no?).
Once more Neliwise Xaba impresses us by her musical choices (big opera choruses and classical Top 5 excerpts) and the way she treats it through personal gesture and expression.
Nelisiwe Xaba succeeds in putting us face to face with our still present (unconsciously?) white colonial taste for exotic voyeurism.
A statement that westerner white Art has a lot to learn from besides its pride of apparent superiority.
Thank you Nelisiwe for reminding us of what Art is there for!
